At the International Museum of Art and Science see the special traveling exhibit, “Torture Instruments Through the Ages”, from Museo De La Toscana in Florence, Italy; the exhibit “Works of the Spirit”, continues until September 28th. At the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum the exhibit “Barocco en la Frontera” continues until June 29th. The exhibit “Taking Flight: A History of Kites”, which continues until July 6th, includes a variety of kites from around the world and their role in history. The Brownsville Historical Association, in partnership with Hudson Elementary of Brownsville, will unveil the Keepers of the Crypt project on May 17, 2008 at 5 p.m., at the Old City Cemetery Center. The project includes student cemetery research, photos, and grave rubbings, a bilingual cemetery kid’s brochure and web components. Students in period costumes will conduct guided tours of the City Cemetery. This project was made possible with the assistance of the History Channel, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and the American Association of State and Local History. South Texas College, in conjunction with education partner Half Spoon LLC, presents an exhibit of more than 20 original paintings used in early 20th Century Mexican calendar art. The exhibit includes the work of the well-known Mexican artists Jose Bribiesca, Demetrio, Jesus Helguera, Eduardo Catano and Armando Drechsler. Admission is free and open to the public. The calendar art paintings will be exhibited at South Texas College campuses in Hidalgo and Starr counties: at the Weslaco Mid-Valley Campus until May 16th ; at the Rio Grande City Starr County Campus until May 23rd. At the Brownsville Heritage Complex, see the exhibit “Colonial Silver of Mexico: 16th to 19th Century” starting on May 15th. The exhibit opens with a reception on May 15th.
