Enter original content and activity ideas related to Sagwa, The Chinese Siamese Cat.
In general, you might want to include highlights of museums in your area that are featuring cultural exhibits for kids, story telling events, puppet performances, etc.
In addition, you could enter content regarding activities related to different Sagwa themes, for example:
- Who Am I?
Children could write descriptions of themselves in creative ways -- as poems or riddles, for instance.
- What Is Right? (including sub-themes of honesty, sharing, and ways to make a difference)
Suggest some common scenarios and ask children to act out ways in which their behavior could help others. Then, let children come up with their own scenarios.
- It's My Life (appreciating oneself and what is special in one's life)
Children might list five things that they like best about themselves or their room--things they wouldn't trade for a million dollars.
- Story Telling
Children can submit stories through the "What's Your Story?" section of this kit.
- Scrapbooks
Encourage children to create scrapbooks to remember special events. They might include photographs, drawings, ticket stubs from movies or places they've gone, notes from friends, things they've written--anything that feels special.
- The Art of Calligraphy
Children could choose a word and then make it into art--adding curlicues to letters, exaggerating letter shapes, coloring them in different ways, etc. In addition, children might observe something in nature and then create a Chinese scroll describing the item through words and pictures.
- Puppets
List puppet shows in your area. Children can also create their own paper bag puppets and tell stories with the puppets.
- Bats
Give basic facts about bats. Have children write a poem in which they imagine they are a bat.
- Magical, Mythical Beasts
Let children imagine their own mythical beasts by mixing different animals. First, ask them to draw the creatures and then think about and describe their special powers. Then, they can combine the animals' names to name the beast. For example, the head of an elephant and the body of a giraffe--an eleaffe or a giraphant.
- Sharing Wisdom Through Proverbs
Give a few examples of proverbs. Let children make up their own serious or silly proverbs. Or, they can choose a favorite proverb and illustrate it.
