The Federal Communications Commission ruled that “…broadcast television service must eventually convert completely to digital operation” and that “…completion of the transition to digital television is December 31, 2006.” That means that when the time comes, standard definition (channel 60) will no longer exist.

So then assignment one is: Visit the FCC website: www.fcc.gov/dtv/ To the left of that page are a series of links to “Consumer Fact Sheets,” KMBH encourages you to read, take notes and/or print the information found on those sheets.

As in many other cases, soon consumers will be flooded with information. We’ll hear information about television sets, digital television sets, high definition television sets, receiver boxes, tuner cards….you get the point. KMBH recommends that you become informed before making a purchase.

So then assignment two is: “Know before you go.” In other words, do not wait for the sales person to educate you about what is best. We strongly urge against this. Visit some web sites, read articles, get input from various sources. It may be best to research more neutral websites than those of electronics stores, television manufacturers, etc.

On September 10, 2003, the FCC adopted some rules to protect consumers. They are known or referred to as “Plug and Play.” The rules “…set a standard between digital television products and digital cable systems.” If you currently subscribe to cable services, its important that you inform yourself about these rules.

So then, assignment three is: Call your local cable provider or visit their website. Get some information about their digital services and compatibility with digital televisions, etc. Don’t forget to find out if they’ll be carrying KMBH Digital. For more information about the Plug and Play rules, visit the FCC website.
